REPORT: THE INNER SENSE
FILE #: 419

The finale begins with Jarod and Zoe in a hot tub, discussing the fact that Jarod has never been on a vacation. Jarod gets a videophone call and leaves the hot tub to answer it. He’s excited to find that the call is from his father, Major Charles!! Jarod tells his father that he’s been searching for him for over a year. Major Charles tells Jarod that “the boy” and he had to go underground for a while, but he kept searching for Jarod, too. Major Charles was finally able to hack into Jarod’s videophone and find the password. Jarod wants to know when he can see Major Charles and Major Charles tells Jarod that they have to be careful, because he doesn’t trust the security of the line. He then tells Jarod that he found Emily and that she is a reporter at the Philadelphia Examiner and that he left the rest of the information about her in Jarod’s secure e-mail … for security reasons. Major Charles tells Jarod to get Emily and bring her back to him – Jarod says that he will do it, and Major Charles breaks the connection.

Jarod arrives at the Philadelphia Examiner to find that Emily has been attacked and thrown out of a second story window. Miraculously, she’s alive and remains conscious long enough for Jarod to tell her that he is her brother and that he is going to help her.

Jarod initiates a pretend as “Jarod Curtis” – an FBI agent – in order to be involved in the investigation relating to the attack on Emily. The police have a description of her assailant and the sketch artist is working on it – it was a male, 35, average build. Jarod tells the detective in charge that he wants all of the files sealed and sent to his precinct, and that he’s going to need an office of his own for a few days. The detective doesn’t argue.

At the Centre, Miss Parker is drunk and taunting Lyle. He comments on her drinking her breakfast and Miss Parker apologizes, and then tells Lyle that it isn’t about him … it’s about their mother. She’s about to tell him that Catherine Parker isn’t in her grave, when she notices a “Mirage” memo on his desk. In a moment of insight, Miss Parker realizes that she cannot trust Lyle, ends the conversation and leaves.

Miss Parker has a discussion with Sydney and Broots about all the little pieces that have begun to fall into place since Edna Raines first told Miss Parker about “Mirage.” It seems as though everyone who finds out about that project ends up dead – and now Miss Parker finds that her mother isn’t in her grave, where she should be. Sydney does his best to dissuade Miss Parker from pursuing the matter further, saying that perhaps Catherine Parker had other wishes regarding how she wanted to be buried … but Miss Parker won’t be deterred. She tells Broots that they are going to start by following her mother’s body and sends him looking for the autopsy report. Alone with Sydney, she tells him that something inside is telling her to do this, and she’s listening.

At the hospital, Emily is in “fair” condition and Jarod spends a few touching moments with his unconscious sister … telling her that he’s sorry he arrived too late to save her and promising that he’ll never be late again.

At the Centre, Lyle is on the phone to Mr. Parker, who is flying somewhere in the Centre jet. Lyle comments on the fact that Mr. Raines is entertaining some people from the Triumvirate and Mr. Parker tells him it doesn’t matter. Lyle goes on to tell Mr. Parker that Miss Parker is poking into “Mirage” but that she’s behind the curve and he’ll make sure that she stays there. Mr. Parker says that keeping Miss Parker from knowing is for her own good … if she found out what “Mirage” was all about, she’d only wish she hadn’t. Broots has found out that he can tap into the visual archive of Catherine Parker’s autopsy file, but it has to be done from the sub-level of The Centre where the file was made. As a result, Miss Parker, Sydney and Broots are on SL-18, looking for the room where Catherine Parker’s autopsy was performed. Sydney finds it … room 12. Once inside, Broots is able to access the file and all of them watch it. Dr. Raines performs the autopsy, which doesn’t give a date. Raines states that the angle of the gunshot wound to Catherine Parker’s head strongly indicates that it was self-inflicted.

Jarod is checking out Emily’s apartment – talking to her landlord. He tells Jarod that he’s glad he came by; because it will save him a trip into town … he was going to tell the police that the guy in their sketch had been hanging around Emily’s apartment. He also tells Jarod that he can’t believe the police left out the fact that the man was missing a thumb from their description. Jarod looks though the fireplace and finds part of a picture in there – it’s the face of a man.

At the Centre, Lyle is getting ready to go out with two Oriental girls when Willie shows him the morning paper. The story about Emily tells Mr. Lyle that she lived through the fall. He tells Willie to assemble a team – they are going back to Philadelphia, ASAP. Miss Parker catches Raines in the elevator at The Centre and confronts him about her mother’s body not being in her grave. Raines tells her that he did what any responsible medical examiner would have done – he honored Catherine Parker’s wishes. He tells Miss Parker that if she has a problem with that, she should take it up with Catherine Parker – then he turns and leaves. Broots and Sydney overhear the exchange and after Raines leaves, Broots wants to know why Miss Parker told Mr. Raines about the empty grave. Miss Parker tells Broots that she did it to “bait the hook” and that she hopes Raines will lead them right to the answer. She turns to ask Sydney if he is coming along – but Sydney isn’t there … he’s disappeared! Unknown to Miss Parker, Sydney has gone back to his office, removed a false bottom from a file cabinet drawer, and pulled out Catherine Parker’s file. In it, there is a DSA – Sydney assures himself that it’s still there.

At County General Hospital, Jarod is arguing with the doctor in charge of Emily over whether she is well enough to be released. He has an order that says she can be released, but the doctor is ignoring it. She tells Jarod that she would release Emily to a next-of-kin – but will not do it under any other circumstances. Jarod is frustrated … he tells the doctor that the person who tried to kill Emily knows that she’s alive and will try again – Emily needs to be moved for her own safety. The doctor won’t budge. Just then, Major Charles arrives, tells the doctor that he is Emily’s father and the doctor agrees to get Emily ready to be moved.

Major Charles and Jarod see Lyle and his team arrive downstairs and hurriedly get Emily moved out of her room and into the elevator. They put her into an ambulance, with Major Charles driving. As they are about to pull away, Willie stops the ambulance and asks Major Charles if he has seen Emily (showing him a picture). Major Charles says that he hasn’t and Willie steps aside, allowing them to drive away.

Jarod takes Emily to the Sisters of St. Catherine Church, where she’ll be safe while finishing her recovery. Jarod is searching on the computer, trying to find out the identity of the man in the picture that he found at Emily’s — he’s not having any luck. Jarod and Major Charles begin going over Emily’s notes, trying to find a clue to who the person in the picture is. Jarod wonders why The Centre would want to murder Emily.

Miss Parker and Broots have followed Raines to a house in the woods and watch from behind some trees as he burns papers in a bonfire outside. As soon as he leaves, they run over to see what they can salvage. After taking the papers out of the fire, they go into the house and throw them into the sink to “put them out.” They find everything from old mortgage papers to children’s drawings done by someone named “Ethan.” Miss Parker is ready to leave, but Broots finds some DSA’s and a St. Christopher medal wrapped in a paper that is marked “Confidential – Mirage.”

Back at St. Catherine’s, Emily regains consciousness. Jarod tells her that he found the picture marked “brother?” in her research files and asks her who it is. Emily tells him that it is “Ethan” and says something about him “talking to voices.” She says, “NuGenesis” and then finds she is too weak to continue speaking, so she takes a pad and writes AA8585, which is a file number. She adds an address … 225 Western Avenue, tells Jarod to “follow him” then slips back into unconsciousness.

In Sydney’s office, he is yelling at Broots … telling him that he should destroy the DSA’s that he recovered from Raines’ hideaway; that Miss Parker shouldn’t see them. Before the argument can be resolved, Miss Parker enters and asks Broots what he is talking about. It’s clear that Broots is going to tell her what he found on the DSA’s, so Sydney stalks out of the office, saying that he won’t be a part of opening this Pandora’s box.

Broots has managed to reconstruct part of the DSA’s from Raines’ house and he shows Miss Parker one that was made of Catherine and Raines, at Raines’ house, in June … months after she was supposedly dead. Broots tells Miss Parker that it is impossible to change the dates on the DSA’s – there is no mistake – Catherine Parker was still alive in June of the year that she supposedly died in April. He also tells her that Sydney didn’t want him to tell her about this. Miss Parker is amazed and cannot believe what she is hearing! She tells Broots to keep digging, but not to tell Sydney what he finds. Broots asks her if there isn’t someone that she can trust … and Miss Parker says, “Where’s Angelo?”

Major Charles and Jarod have gone to the address that Emily gave them … it’s Ethan’s lair. Jarod says that it reminds him of the insanity with which he grew up … there are security cameras recording every move and Ethan has videotaped himself for years. Major Charles finds plans for a bomb that Ethan is building and an unmailed letter that Ethan wrote to his parents, the Clausen’s. Jarod re-winds the video tape for the day, to see what Ethan did before he left. Major Charles and Jarod see Ethan talking to his “voices” – and then the phone rings and Ethan tells the person on the other end of the line that he is almost done with “7677” but he needs to talk first. He asks the person on the phone to swear that after the explosion, the pain will be gone … whoever it is on the phone is promising Ethan that his inner torment will end if he does what he is told. Ethan says that he’ll do it, but first he wants to see his mom and dad … he pauses and then asks the person why they won’t let him see his mom and dad. The person tells him that his parents don’t love him – only they love him. The connection breaks and Ethan doubles over – obviously experiencing pain in his head. As he suffers through whatever it is that is haunting him, the screen on which the recording is playing displays a burst of static. After listening to his “voices,” Ethan becomes certain that the person on the phone is going to hurt his parents. He takes his bomb and hurriedly leaves the room. Jarod tells Major Charles that wherever Ethan is going, he’s not coming back. Jarod and Major Charles look at the address on the un-mailed letter and take off to the home of Ethan’s parents.

Back at The Centre Mr. Lyle is in the middle of a video phone call with Mr. Parker. Lyle is telling Mr. Parker that it’s not his fault that Jarod got to Emily before the sweeper team did. Mr. Parker tells Lyle that it’s his fault that Emily was alive at all. Mr. Parker asks Lyle if there has been any progress on “Mirage.” Lyle tells him that they are still searching. Mr. Parker is disgusted with the whole thing … he says that his daughter is busy searching for a ghost and his son is searching for a monster — the last one alive … lives!

Miss Parker and Broots take Angelo to Raines’ house in the mountains. Miss Parker wants Angelo to empath the St. Christopher’s medal that her mother wore. Angelo tells Miss Parker that Catherine’s journey isn’t over – that illusions are real – that mirages are real. Miss Parker gets frustrated and attempts to make Angelo explain, but Broots reminds her that Angelo isn’t capable of it. As they are getting ready to leave, Angelo tells Miss Parker that he is sorry that he doesn’t have the answers she wants … then says that “Sydney knows … Sydney knows all the ‘secrets and lies.’” Miss Parker is shocked and isn’t certain what to think of Sydney anymore.

Jarod goes to the home of Ethan’s “parents” and finds him upstairs, holding his dead mother in his arms. Someone has killed both of his parents – shot them. Ethan sees Jarod and thinks that he did it – flings himself at him and the two of them tumble down the stairs. At the bottom, Ethan pulls a gun and points it at Jarod, but Jarod tells him that he only wants to help Ethan. Just as the police arrive, Ethan tells Jarod that there is only one person who can help him now – and flees out a side door. Jarod shows the police his FBI badge and tells them that he arrived too late – there are bodies upstairs.

Miss Parker goes to Sydney’s office and confronts him about knowing that her mother didn’t really die in the elevator. He admits that he kept the truth from her and tells her that he did it because of a promise that he made to Catherine Parker on the day that she staged her suicide. He plays the DSA from Catherine Parker’s file for Miss Parker. On it, Catherine Parker tells Sydney that she must stage her death because she has discovered that someone she loved plans to kill her. She has been made a part of something called “Mirage” and if she does not make The Centre think she is dead, she will be killed. She reminds Sydney that he “owes her” and makes him swear never to tell her daughter the tragedy of her family secret. Sydney swears to keep the secret and gives Catherine Parker his St. Christopher medal. Miss Parker asks Sydney if he knows what it is … Mirage, the tragedy, her terrible family secret … and he tells her that he doesn’t know. Catherine Parker never told him that.

Back at St. Catherine’s, Jarod is telling Major Charles that Ethan’s parents were killed as a message to him to finish the 7677 job. They both agree that it sounds like something in which The Centre would be involved. Major Charles has hacked into the NuGenesis mainframe and found the AA8585 file … it was a shipment of cryogenically frozen sperm that was shipped to The Centre. The sperm that was shipped belonged to Major Charles!

Lyle and Mr. Cox are having a vid-phone conference with Mr. Parker, who is still flying somewhere in the Centre jet. Lyle tells Mr. Parker that Jarod found Ethan’s parents, but didn’t get there until after they were killed. Mr. Parker wants to find a way to get Jarod out of the way and Mr. Cox suggests that they give Jarod something that is more important to him than Ethan to go after … like Zoe. Mr. Parker likes the idea.

At St. Catherine’s, Major Charles has found out that comparative tests on his DNA have been going on for the past 25 years. Jarod wants to know who or what his DNA has been compared to, but Major Charles doesn’t know. All he knows is that the results have been sent to a private residence in Blue Cove, Delaware. He and Jarod take off to check out the address.

As Mr. Raines is leaving his secret forest house, Jarod and Major Charles approach from a hillside. Jarod is getting strange vibes from the place and Major Charles reminds him that it has to do with Raines, so it’s supposed to be weird … but Jarod says that it’s more than that – but he just can’t place it. Once they are inside the house, Jarod is more certain than ever that something isn’t right. He’s feeling a sort of deja-vu, but he can’t place it.

Back at The Centre, Broots has reconstructed more from the DSA’s they got from Raines’ house. As Miss Parker and Sydney look on, they see Catherine Parker and Mr. Raines, in the forest house, six months after Catherine Parker was supposedly dead!

At Raines’ forest house, Major Charles is asking Jarod if he’s seen the place before and Jarod says that it is like he’s been there before. He walks to a sliding door and begins to open it …

Back on the DSA, a young Jarod opens the sliding door to enter the room where Catherine Parker is sitting. Catherine Parker asks him to sit down beside her and when he does, she puts his hand on her stomach and tells the young Jarod that he is going to have a brother!

At the Centre, Miss Parker can’t believe what she is seeing on the DSA! She has a brother … no … she and Jarod share a brother!

At Raines’ forest house, Jarod comes to the realization that his newfound brother must be Ethan.

At the Centre, Miss Parker wonders where her brother is.

In a Centre town car, Raines is riding in the backseat with Ethan — Ethan says that his parents are dead and Mr. Raines says that he is Ethan’s father now.

The second hour begins with Jarod talking to Sydney on the phone, telling him that he has a very strong feeling that he’s been at Raines’ forest house before. Miss Parker walks into Sydney’s office during the conversation and tells Jarod that he knows he’s been at that house before and that he’s been keeping her mother’s secrets from her. Jarod swears that he has no memory of it and wonders if there is any way to retrieve that information from his mind. Miss Parker is stressing over the fact that she has no idea if she really has a brother, who he is or where he is … and Jarod tells her that their brother is named Ethan and he is involved with a project called “7677” and if she can figure out what that is, she can find Ethan.

After Miss Parker breaks the connection, Jarod goes back to watching one of the tapes that Ethan made of himself before he took the bomb and left. The local munitions dealer is brought into the police station for questioning and Jarod tries to find out if he knows anything about Ethan. Jarod threatens him with Federal prison for aiding and abetting in making bombs and gets him to tell him that he set up a meeting at a warehouse at Broad street and Franklin at midnight.

Back at The Centre, Broots has managed to re-construct another bit that was left on one of the forest house DSA’s and is bringing Miss Parker and Sydney in to see it. Catherine Parker had (the then) Dr. Raines bring the young Jarod to see her at the forest house. After sending Raines out of the room, she explains to Jarod that she may not live much longer and, if that happens, she has something very important that she wants him to tell Miss Parker. She makes him promise to tell and he agrees. Dr. Raines tries to break up the meeting, but Catherine sends him away again – and before she tells Jarod whatever the “very important” thing is, she unplugs the camera that makes the DSA’s – and the screen goes blank. Miss Parker wants Broots to retrieve the image … but he tells her that he can’t retrieve what’s not there … that Catherine Parker unplugged the camera and there is nothing that he can do. Miss Parker cannot believe that her mother’s dying secret is lost on the DSA and Jarod cannot remember it either. Her mood goes from dark to dismal. Sydney tells her that somehow Raines must have erased that memory from Jarod’s mind – Broots adds “like brainwashing or with hypnosis” — but Miss Parker doesn’t care how it was done. She says she will get that memory back from Jarod, even if she must “crack his head open and scoop it out with a melon scooper.” Broots wants to know exactly how she’s going to do that and Miss Parker says that he can bet her a** that Raines knows where Ethan is – so they follow Raines – because if they find Ethan, then they find Jarod.

Miss Parker and Sam are sitting in a darkened car, watching Mr. Raines leave The Centre. When he drives away – they follow. They end up at the warehouse on Broad street. Inside Ethan is making an exchange — an envelope full of money for some explosives. Jarod has entered the warehouse through another door — and now everyone is in the same building. After the exchange, Raines approaches Ethan and tells him to relax; everything is going to be just fine. Raines tells Ethan that as soon as he earns the trust of the Triumvirate, he’ll come to The Centre and they’ll do great things together.

After Raines leaves, Jarod approaches Ethan and tells him that he’s not going to hurt him. Ethan still believes that Jarod killed his parents, but Jarod tells him that he is not the one who is responsible for the death of Ethan’s parents. As Jarod is trying to convince Ethan to trust him, Sam the sweeper makes a noise while creeping down the stairs and Jarod tells Ethan to run – which he does. A shot rings out, but no one is hurt – and as Miss Parker begins pursuing Jarod in the darkened warehouse, Ethan slips out a side door and gets away. After a short chase in the darkened warehouse, Jarod finds himself facing the wrong end of Miss Parker’s gun – she is standing on a catwalk above him and tells him that he has finally used up the last of his nine lives.

Apparently either Miss Parker or Sam renders Jarod unconscious (during the commercial), because in the next scene he awakens, tied to a chair, at Miss Parker’s house. Miss Parker says that she needs him to help her by telling her what Catherine Parker told him … and she threatens him – holding a knife to his throat. Jarod tells her that he doesn’t think she’s going to let him go, no matter what he says. Miss Parker walks toward him with the knife, but then uses it to cut the ropes that are around his chest so that he can stand up and walk over to see the DSA playing in the machine. As Jarod watches the younger version of himself with Catherine Parker, he tells Sydney, who has been sitting in the background, that he doesn’t remember any of it. Sydney tells him that it’s in his mind and Jarod tells Sydney that he wants to “get it out.”

Sydney hypnotizes Jarod and takes him back to the day that Raines took him from The Centre to the forest house to see Catherine Parker. Jarod remembers Catherine Parker telling him that the baby she was carrying would be his brother and that he would be called “Ethan.” Catherine Parker explains that the baby told her that his name would be “Ethan” and Jarod asked her how that could be. She goes on to explain that it’s her “inner sense” … voices that she hears talking to her all the time. She continues to tell Jarod that she is worried that Ethan’s abilities … his “inner sense” … will be used by people for the wrong reasons. She then explains to Jarod that, unknown to her, while she was sedated for a minor surgery, her husband, Mr. Parker, impregnated her with Jarod’s father’s “seed.” Mr. Parker, she tells Jarod, wanted to create a child that would have Catherine’s “inner sense” and who could also be “special” like Jarod. She tells Jarod that Dr. Raines showed her proof of what had been done to her and then Catherine also found out that Mr. Parker planned to kill her once the baby was born. Catherine says that she had hoped to escape and give the baby a chance at a real life, but her “voices” are telling her that she will never leave the house alive. Catherine makes Jarod promise to tell her daughter to “complete her plan.” When Jarod questions what the plan is – Catherine tells him to tell her daughter to trust her “inner sense” – which someday she will understand, but she must listen to her voices. She tells Jarod that his soul is a trusting one, just like his mother’s … and one day he will be back together again with his mother because Ethan will help him find her. She finishes by telling Jarod to trust his “inner sense.”

Somewhere, Ethan sits with his computer, typing at warp speed, arming the bomb. He puts the bomb in his backpack, steps on the laptop that he used to arm the bomb, and then throws it against the wall as he leaves.

Back at The Centre, Lyle is waiting to hear from Mr. Cox regarding Zoe. Willie delivers the news that Cox is ready to go. He also gives Lyle a paper that he says the people at the Triumvirate headquarters thought Lyle would find interesting … the memo has to do with Mr. Raines.

Broots is calling Miss Parker at home, telling her that he intercepted a communication from the Triumvirate and he’s certain that he’s not the only one that did. It has to do with “7677” and Mirage. Broots tells her that if it goes off as planned, Mr. Raines will be in charge of The Centre. Miss Parker says it will be a “Raines coup.” After she hangs up the phone, Miss Parker looks at Jarod and asks him why she thinks that he already knows what Broots just told her. Jarod explains that it is what Raines has been planning for Ethan all along. Raines has made Ethan completely dependent upon him and has turned him into his person assassin. Jarod tells Miss Parker that she can stop Raines … but she hesitates. Jarod tells her to “trust her inner sense” and do what her mother would have wanted her to do. He tells her that he trusts her “inner sense.” Then Jarod tells her that he’s going to find “their” brother and leaves. Miss Parker doesn’t stop him.

Mr. Raines enters his office to find Lyle waiting for him … questioning Mr. Raines’ religious convictions. Lyle tells Raines that he’s “as born again as I am.” Lyle lets Raines know that he knows about his dealings with the Triumvirate and with the project “7677” because he intercepted a communique addressing these things. Lyle says that he’s hurt … he thought that “Bobby Bowman” was Raines’ only project. Lyle makes it clear that he knows that Raines is trying to take over and then goes on to tell Raines that he wants to run The Centre with him. Lyle tells Raines that the reason that his project “7677” with Ethan will be completed is because he (Lyle) won’t tell Mr. Parker about Raines stealing his son … then Ethan can become part of The Centre just as Raines promised the Triumvirate he would and Raines, with Lyle, can take over. In order to make it all happen, Lyle wants Raines to “activate” Ethan and get “7677” over with. He holds the phone out to Raines and asks him, “What do you say, partner?” Raines makes the call and activates Ethan, who is waiting in a phone booth. As soon as he does, Mr. Parker enters the office with Willie and two other sweepers. He directs Willie to have his team pick up Ethan as soon as he has completed “7677.” Lyle tells them to lock Raines up in SL-25.

Zoe leaves her house and is driving somewhere in her red convertible when she finds her way on the dirt road blocked by a car with its hood up – steam coming out of its engine. She stops to see if there is anything that she can do to help and Mr. Cox gets in her car and gives her an evil smile as he tells her that there’s a lot she can do to help.

Back at St. Catherine’s, Jarod walks into the room to find Major Charles sleeping and Emily awake. He tells Emily that he’s going to find their mom and that they will all be together as one big, happy family. Emily asks him what will happen to Ethan and Jarod assures her that Ethan is “gifted” – the voices he hears make him “special.”

At the Centre, Broots tells Miss Parker that he recovered more of the forest house archives. Sydney is there and both he and Broots tell Miss Parker to sit down before she watches the last of the DSA’s. It shows the birth of her brother, Ethan, and Catherine Parker talking to the newborn child – telling him that she wants him, and his brother and sister, to carry out her plan. Then it shows Mr. Raines apologizing to Catherine, saying that he is only following orders, just before he shoots her!! Afterwards, Raines takes the baby from the nurse and tells her to have Catherine Parker cremated.

Miss Parker takes Major Charles’ gun from its red box in her office and heads off to find Raines. Broots tells Sydney to talk to her – to try to stop her – but Sydney doesn’t. He tells Broots that there’s nothing more to say.

At St. Catherine’s again, Jarod is looking at a computer with Major Charles. It shows schematics … Jarod says that he managed to recover the information from the hard disk of the computer that Ethan thought he destroyed when he armed the bomb. Jarod was able to get the location where the bomb will be planted … the 7677 Beacon Station subway. The end of the route for that train is the Freedom Station and directly above it is the National Hotel which just happens to be hosting a peace conference with hundreds of foreign dignitaries. Ethan placed the information regarding when the train will leave in a “well-hidden encryption file” — but Jarod found it and tells Major Charles that the train will be leaving in exactly one hour. Jarod and Major Charles are rushing to the door to leave when … Jarod’s video phone rings … they pause … turn … Jarod decides to answer it and finds … Lyle and Cox showing him that they have Zoe. They tell Jarod that unless he surrenders himself at Rosen’s Farm, outside of Blue Cove, in one hour, harm will befall Zoe.

Back at The Centre, Miss Parker has found Mr. Raines on sub-level 25 and approaches him slowly, Major Charles’ gun hanging at her side as she walks. She reaches the cell where Raines is being held and tells him all of the reasons why she plans on killing him. She tells Raines that she plans on saving her brother, Ethan and if he will tell her everything that he knows about “7677,” she will consider letting him live for another day. Raines caves in and tells her that “7677” is the number of a Washington, DC subway train, departing from Beacon Station in a little over one hour. When the train pulls into Freedom Station, the subway and everything above it will blow up. Ethan will plant the bomb and Ethan will guide the train. Raines begins to pray, but Miss Parker interrupts him … she wants to know what it was that her mother meant when she talked about her “unfinished work.” Raines gets up from his knees and says, “Then you never found it either …” and goes on to tell Miss Parker that “word has it” that her mother made a DSA that explained everything and that it was the one piece of evidence that he was unable to find and therefore never destroyed. Miss Parker grabs Raines through the bars and says that he must know what it’s about. He tells her that it’s about what everything is about … The Centre and all the lies. He reminds her that whatever her mother may have left behind, there is still one person alive who does know the whole truth … but before he can say anything more, a gunshot rings out … Raines slumps against the bars and then falls backwards – his body lifeless on the floor. Miss Parker jumps at the sound, startled. Then she sees her father walk out from the other side of the cell. He tells her that he couldn’t have his little girl have that kind of blood on her hands. She asks him if that is really what he was worried about … or the truth.

At the barn where Zoe is being held by Cox and Lyle, a masked figure, all dressed in black, swiftly dispatches the two guards that were left outside, deftly scales a tree and enters the barn through a second story window that leads to a loft. Once there, he tosses a grappling hook over a center beam, pitches a flash bomb into the center of the room below and then swings down into the room, using the rope to which the hook was attached. He takes Willie out with one punch, shoots another sweeper, swiftly unties Zoe and spirits her away amid the smoke from the bomb. As Lyle and Cox make their way to the door and out of the smoke, the intruder rips off his mask and they see that the black suited ninja was actually … Major Charles!

At the Beacon Station, Ethan has attached the bomb to the undercarriage of the train. Just as Jarod arrives, he gets a phone call from Zoe, telling him that she’s safe. Jarod is trying to get into the station, but runs into a security gate. With 7 minutes left on the bomb’s timer, Jarod is able to pull the gate up just enough for him to slide beneath it. As Jarod makes his way down into the train station, Ethan has made his way to the front of the train and is using a computer to take control of it. The doors are closing as Jarod arrives at the train, but he manages to jump inside just before they do. Having programmed the train, Ethan smashes the keyboard, and then turns off the lights in the rest of the train. Meanwhile, Jarod is making his way forward, looking for Ethan. With 5 minutes and 30 seconds left on the bomb, Jarod finds Ethan at the control panels.

Ethan screams at Jarod to “stay away.” He says that “the voices” say not to trust Jarod. Jarod tells him that “not all of them” are saying that. Ethan says that he wishes he didn’t have to hear the voices, but Jarod tells him that hearing the voices are his “inner sense” and it’s what makes him special. Jarod tells Ethan that he’s his brother and Ethan tells Jarod that “she” told him about Jarod. Jarod realizes that Ethan must be talking about Catherine Parker and tells him that her voice is the one to which Ethan must listen. Ethan wants to know to whom the voice belongs and Jarod tells him that it belongs to his real mother. Jarod explains that Mr. Raines took Ethan’s gifts and used them against him … he tells him to listen to the voice of his mother — that she is his “guide.” Jarod tells Ethan that if he does what Raines wants him to that innocent people will die and that’s not Ethan – it’s not what “Ethan” is.

Ethan tries to focus on Catherine Parker’s voice, which tells him to “trust him, son … trust Jarod.” In a moment, Ethan begins to sing Jarod’s childhood song … Cree Craw, Toad’s Foot, Geese Walk Barefoot … Jarod begins to sing it with him and Ethan realizes that Jarod is his brother and embraces him. Jarod asks Ethan where the bomb is hidden, as he tries to stop the train. Ethan tells him that the bomb is on the undercarriage of the train and that the train cannot be stopped. Jarod manages to change the programming for the train so that it takes an alternate track – one that will take it to a maintenance yard and not to Freedom Station. Ethan tells him that the train has an auto-brake that will engage in 40 seconds and that 20 seconds after that, the bomb will go off. Jarod grabs Ethan and tells him to run to the back of the train.

As Ethan and Jarod are heading for the back of the train, they run right into Miss Parker, who has appeared out of nowhere, gun drawn. Jarod explains to her that they need to get off the train because there is a bomb on board. Still, Miss Parker holds them at bay, telling them to disarm the bomb or stop the train. Jarod explains that they cannot do either and then tells her that Ethan is their brother. She hesitates … and Ethan suddenly tells Miss Parker that she sounds “just like her” – meaning Catherine Parker. Jarod tells Miss Parker that Ethan can “hear” Catherine Parker’s voice … and maybe she can, too, and if she can, then she should listen to it. As he is pleading with her, the auto-brake engages, giving them less than 20 seconds to get off the train before the bomb blows. Ethan is suddenly disabled by the voices that he hears … Jarod tells Miss Parker that Ethan’s condition is the result of “side-effects” from what Raines has done to him for all these years. Miss Parker finally chooses to believe Jarod and helps him to assist Ethan toward the back of the train where they can jump off.

With 2 seconds left on the timer, and the train already well into the alternate tunnel, Jarod, Miss Parker and Ethan jump off the back of the train. Two seconds after Jarod screams “jump!” the bomb explodes and a fireball rushes out of the tunnel with such force that it blows a manhole cover off on the street above and lifts the car that was sitting over another one, up in the air.

The National Hotel and the people at the peace conference are saved … but no one walked out of the tunnel after the explosion … there appears to have been no time for any of them to get to safety …

And the screen fades to black on the finale for season four…
