REPORT: RISQUE BUSINESS
FILE #: 404
At the Institute for Animal Reproductive Studies, Miss Parker, Sydney, and Broots are being shown the area where Jarod worked with animals. The keeper tells them that Jarod didn’t stay in the crew quarters because he wanted to be near to the animals, and that they should watch their step because Jarod liked to let the animals run free. They look through everything to find out if he left any clues.
Sydney says to the keeper that he was saying that Jarod said he was an animal behaviorist…. the keeper says yes for some zoo in…. Lyle walks in asking if it was in “Blue Cove, Delaware?” Lyle is a bit upset that no one told him that they were leaving to search for Jarod. Miss Parker says, “Lyle…” But he jumps in thinking that he knows what she was going to say, “that it was an oversight. That the people were going to call his people.” But she says no that she was going to say… He steps in something… “Watch your step.” The keeper then tells them that Jarod spent a great deal of time watching the chimps. Sydney thinks it is because he associates with being caged. But the keeper says that isn’t it… Jarod liked to watch the chimp’s mate! Broots finds a box filled with sex toys. Miss Parker says, “Looks like our little monkey’s in heat.”
At the Arnett Center for Sexual Therapy, A nurse welcomes Jarod to his new office. He thanks nurse… Plenty… she corrects him saying it is “Plentay.” She tells him where his schedule is and gives him a booklet to explain the phones. She also says that she brought him coffee and tea. He tells her thanks you. She tells him that their moto is satisfaction. He asks her if she needed something else and she starts to remove her cloths and tries to push Jarod onto his desk… he is becoming rather embarrassed. Another doctor enters the room and stops Monique saying that she must have slipped past her. Jarod is really embarrassed and says, “She’s not really a nurse, is she?” The female doctor says that she is his 9 o’clock appointment. Monique Brooks suffers from the urge for sexual role playing. Monique says, “We all like to pretend once in a while, don’t we doc?” Jarod can only agree.
Jarod is in his office with some patients who are telling him that they like to have sex in public places. And that they fell off the score board, but the peanut guy broke their fall, which may have saved their lives. Then there is another couple, who have been together for 5 years and have not yet had sex. Jarod tells them that it is normal for people to wait and that five years is not that long. The husband says that they have been married for 4 years. Jarod says that they have some videos that might help them.
The second couple is leaving and thanks Jarod. He tells them not to try everything at once. Dr. Allen Covney welcomes Jarod Kinsey to the Arnett Center. Then Allen asks, “How many sex therapists does it take to change a little blub?” Jarod wants to know if he need help changing a light bulb. Allen tells him that it was a joke. Dr. Arnett says that it’s like the funny ones only different. He tells Jarod that the work that they do there is important. Allen says that he must get to his 11 o’clock group. Arnett talks with Jarod.
Broots is holding an inflatable woman and is asking Sydney why they always look like they have a shocked look on their face. Miss Parker enters the room and sees Broots with the inflatable women and laughs at the thought. Broots tells her to say what she is thinking but she refrains. Miss Parker wants to know about what they found. She thinks Jarod could use a cold shower. Sydney says that “Jarod has a cleaver mind and that there is no reason why he wouldn’t use it to explore his sensuality.” Miss Parker doesn’t care and wants to know what they found… Broots makes a few jokes, but eventually says that he will keep her posted.
Lyle comes in to ask whether they forgot to call him again. Miss Parker says that he can play with the toys when they are done. Lyle tells them that things are changing, and they are to report everything to him. Miss Parker says that if they don’t, he’ll go to The Tower and report them… “Tattle tale will go so nicely on your resume.” Lyle tells her to watch her step. Lyle leaves.
Miss Parker says that she won’t report to anyone especially her little brother. Sydney finds something interesting. A shipping invoice with no return address only a web site…. lustyfun.com. Miss Parker wants him to find the physical address on the place and not to tell anyone. Broots tries to say something about Lyle… but Miss Parker grabs a whip from the table and presses it to his face and tells him to think of his worst nightmare. Broots scurries off. Miss Parker cracks the whip and then tosses it back onto the table.
Jarod is in Dr. Arnett’s office and notices that shrine to the “Mighty Bobcats” from Marietta University on the mantle. He tells Arnett that he must really like the Bobcats. Arnett says that he can call it an obsession. He asks, “Don’t you have a similar attachment to your alma mater?” Jarod says, “I have a strong feeling about the place.”
Arnett thanks Jarod for taking Melissa Blass’ case load and then proceeds to say that he is worried about Melissa’s patients… and how they are going to make the transition to another doctor. Jarod says that he will have to try hard with her patients and Arnett is amazed at the lives that are affected by a tragedy like Melissa’s. Jarod asks if the attacker has been caught and Arnett says that the police are still looking for Luke Carlo, a court appointed case. Arnett says that the night of the attack, Carlo called her and said he was having an emergency and she ended up at the Aros Inn, where is all happened. Arnett says that she is a shell of the person that she was. Jarod notices a picture of Arnett and Melissa on Dr. Arnett’s desk.
Jarod is looking in his red notebook. He reads articles about the attack. “Assaulted Therapist Crippled by Fear” & “Ex-Con Patient Sought in Attack”. Jarod looks at a picture of Luke Carlo and seems a bit puzzled.
Tony the intern is watching videotaped meetings with some of the doctors for his studies. Jarod enters and introduces himself. Then he says that he has heard that Tony knows everything that goes on around the place. Tony says that he watches all the court refer sessions for his thesis which is on sexual predators. Jarod notices that the screen is of Doctor Arnett working with someone. Tony says that the guy that he is working with is a standard trench coat and sneaker flasher.
On the video, Dr Arnett is telling the patient that everyone has fears. The man tells Arnett that he is not afraid of anything. Arnett tell the patient, Mr. Truly, that when he was a kid his father took him duck hunting, and when he was laying out the decoys the boat flipped. He says that he was stuck underneath… in an air pocket. The water started to rise up his neck and over his chin…. he nearly drowned… but to this day he is a hydrophobic. He can shower but he can’t take being in a tub or a swimming pool. He says that fear is natural, but you must control the fear, not the other way around.
Jarod asks Tony if he also watched the sessions with Dr. Blass and Luke Carlo. Tony says that the guy was crazy and that he was wound to tight, unfortunately for Dr. Blass she was the one he went off on.
At the Centre, Broots is sitting at a desk sketching a naughty drawling of Miss Parker. Sydney walks in a makes a comment about the picture. Broots says that he was just doodling and that it is nothing. Sydney says that doodling in a way to express the unconscious. Sydney says that he can’t help but notice that it looks like Miss Parker. Broots thinks that she is impressive, because she is always in control, and she never shows fear. Sydney says that feelings about co-workers is natural. Sydney encourages him to tell her, but he says that he cannot.
Miss Parker hears the tail of the conversation and asks if he has another crush. She asks if it is that double-chinned chick in R & D.
Broots says no, then yes, then says it is two clefts – one chin.
Broots’ computer beeps and the address for the Lustyfun.com comes up. Miss Parker tells him to stay and pretend like they are still searching, while she and Sydney go after Jarod. Broots says, “Aren’t we supposed to report everything we hear?” and Miss Parker replies, “Aren’t you supposed to have a pair.” Sydney says that he will stay because he has stuff to do anyway. Broots and Miss Parker leave together.
Gloria is watching a video of her and Melissa talking about her boyfriend problems. Jarod walks in and Gloria is surprised. She says that she just had to see what Melissa’s advice was again. Gloria seems sad and walks out. Jarod watches the video again.
Jarod goes to Melissa Blass’ home and watches from a distance as Melissa paranoidly looks outside. Jarod then goes up to the door and rings the bell. Melissa tells him to put the package in the box. Jarod says that he is not a man. He tells her that he works and the Arnett Center. She tells him to go away that she doesn’t need any help. He tells her that he needs her help. He says that he has taken over her case load and he needs help with a new patient, he wants to reach her before she slips over the edge. She opens the door but leaves the chain lock on. She says that she doesn’t practice anymore, but he is hoping that she still cares. She asks how she can believe that he is who he says he is. He shows her his I.D. and says that Dr. Arnett hired him, he works with Dr. Covney and Tony is the intern. She says that anyone could know that. He says that she is right, but Gloria is still having problems with her boyfriend Eddie. She lets him in, and he notices that she collects seashell. She tells him that her grandmother had a beach house and growing up she was her sanctuary. She tells him that she was about to fix some tea.
In her kitchen, where she asks about the new patient. As Melissa cleans the counters, Jarod says that the women are suffering from a generalized anxiety disorder brought on by emotional trauma. Melissa asks for the symptoms. Jarod says they are, “insomnia, panic attack, overwhelming sense of fear.” Jarod says that he thinks that the woman really wants to get better, but the fear stops her. Melissa starts to wash her hands. Jarod says that the women somedays doesn’t get out of bed, her heart races, and she can’t breathe. And that she feels like she is losing control, the things that worries him is that she is beginning to think that ending it all is the only way out. Jarod turns the water off and Melissa starts the dry her hands. She catches on that she is the women and Jarod tries to get her to talk about the night that she was attacked, she starts making excuses, but he tells her to just try. She says that she went to Carlo’s hotel, she went into the open door and someone grabbed her from behind. She remembers a blindfold and handcuffs. She is having flashes, and they start to overwhelm her. She takes some pills and then drinks alcohol. Jarod warns her about mixing them, but she yells at him to go and he does.
Miss Parker and Broots pull up in a neighborhood. Broots comments that it is not sleazy it is “Beaver Cleavers House.” Miss Parker says that behind the scenes suburbia is a freak show. The go up to the door and knock. Broots asks Miss Parker about expressing your feelings to a woman and she tells him that a woman doesn’t want a guy who spills his feelings all over the floor… make a move or move on. A man answers the door and Miss Parker says that they are there to shop. The man’s plays dumb and Miss Parker says that Jarod must have lied to them. The man stops them say that if they are friends of Jarod’s they can come in. He tells them that he must keep a low profile. He tells them that a few months ago they were experimenting and now they are making money. Roy says that he only knew Jarod from chat rooms and the large order that he placed. He says that his wife was intrigued. Roy says that they are still sending him stuff on back order. Miss Parker says that Jarod recently moved and that they are not sure if they have the most recent address on him. Roy give them the address (1248 Ren Park, Wyattville) and they leave just in time. Roy calls someone and tell them that “they” just left.
Jarod is watching the video of Melissa with Carlo. She says that they must find a better way for him to deal with his sexual urges. He tells her that around her neighborhood sex is all secrets, but in his it is sold on the streets… that is why it is called the Flesh District.
Jarod goes looking for Luke Carlo. He stops and asks some prostitutes if they have seen him, but they say that they haven’t. Then Jarod asks a homeless man if he has seen Carlo. The man says, “Don’t see nobody.” Jarod replies, “Nobody sees you. The best eyes to see the world with are invisible.” The man is shock and says that Jarod has sent time on the streets. Jarod asks again about Carlo and the homeless man points him out. Carlo sees Jarod and makes a break for it. Jarod chases him through the allies. Luke pulls a gun on Jarod and is screaming that he didn’t do it. Jarod says he wants to talk about Dr. Blass. Luke says that he didn’t do it. Jarod asks if that is why he is pointing the gun at him. He says that he didn’t do it. Luke knocks over a stack of pallets and runs off screaming that he didn’t do it.
Arnett asks Jarod if he went to Melissa last night. He says that he did, and Arnett is shocked that he did, because she doesn’t usually even answer the phone. He asks how she is, and Jarod tells him not well. Jarod thinks that there is something else going on with Melissa besides the trauma. Arnett says that before everything Melissa was solid and stable.
Jarod goes back to Melissa’s, but she says that she doesn’t want to talk. He tells her this time he has a delivery. She opens the door and is holding a box of sand with seashells and a CD of ocean sounds (Jarod obviously put it in the box this time). He asks if she would like to take a walk on the beach.
They are in her living room. She has her feet in the box of sand and the CD is playing. Jarod is trying to get her back to her grandmother’s beach house, where she feels safe. She starts having the flashes of the night that she was attacked again, and she gets edgy. She says that she knows what he is doing, that she used sensory relaxation exercises all the time on her patients. Jarod says that she must know that they work. Jarod asks if she saw Luke there that night. She starts to panic and reaches for the pills… she spills them in her drink and the drink turns red. Jarod reds the bottle and it says Pronil. Jarod observes that Dr. Covney filled the prescription and Melissa says that he handles all the meds at the clinic.
Jarod testing different drugs in alcohol. Jarod soon discovers that Daronex is the drug that turns the alcohol red not the Pronil.
Jarod confronts Dr. Covney, but Covney says that he didn’t fill Melissa’s prescription, that Arnett is handling all her meds. Jarod says that Melissa has been taking Daronex instead of Pronil. Covney says that Daronex’s main side effect is heightened anxiety. Covney can’t believe that Arnett would make that mistake. Jarod doesn’t either.
Jarod is with his first patients. They say they tried have sex at home behind closed door, but they opened the curtains. They never knew they had such nice neighbors. But it is a shame that they will have to move now. Then Jarod is with Monique who is cheerleading topless… she does a cheer for sex and then Jarod tells her that it was nice but to put her cloths back on.
Miss Parker and Broots pull up to the address that Roy gave them, and they get out of the car. They walk over to the fence and Miss Parker asks Broots to give her a boost over. He is a bit hesitant, but she yells his name and he gives her the boost.
Inside of the lair, Miss Parker is upset because Jarod is not there. Broots tells her that maybe they are not too late. Broots points out that today’s paper is there, the DSA player, food, cloths, and the computer is still warm. Miss Parker thinks that Jarod is still living there. Broots gets nervous and reaches into a blow and starts to eat some pistachios. Broots offers Miss Parker one and she then gets suspicious. She asks when they found the receipt for Lustyfun.com. Broots says that it was after Mr. Lyle left. She tells him that they are leaving. Broots is shocked but scurries after her.
Jarod goes into Dr. Paul Arnett’s office and looks at a picture of Melissa Blass with Dr. Arnett. Jarod is looking around and finds a signed basketball. Jarod inspects the sides of its stand and discovers and false side. He opens it to find article… from Melissa and Arnett’s college years about girls that were raped at the campus… Melissa was one of them.
Jarod is at Melissa’s house and she is saying that she can’t believe the difference in the way that she feels now that she is no longer taking the Daronex. Melissa says that she should have known that there was something wrong with the other pills, but Jarod says that they both look the same how could she know. Jarod then says that he wants to talk about the attack. He says that she needs to talk about it. She tells him that not all the details are there. He says that they should go further back… to the first time it happened. Melissa is shocked that he knows. She tells him about going to college with Arnett and that she was coming home when she was attacked. She becomes upset and reaches for a drink and Jarod tells her “No more crutch.” He tells her that they have to figure out who did this to her. She wants to know how, and he says, “By asking someone who knows.”
Jarod is watching a session will Melissa and Luke Carlo. She is asks him to imagine a place that feels very safe. He starts to tell her about a park where there is a man who plays the cello and he sits on the bench listening to it.
Jarod is walking in the park following the sound of a cello. Jarod sees Luke sitting on a bench listening to the music. Jarod tells Luke that it is relaxing there. Luke get up and starts to run away. Jarod tells him he can run but he will never get away from the guilt. Luke says that he didn’t do it. Jarod says that he lured her down there and that he thinks he knows who did attack Melissa. Jarod asks if it was Dr. Arnett. Luke says that he did want to call her, but Arnett threatened to report Luke to his parole officer for missed appointments, probation violations, anything he could make up. Luke says that he called Dr. Blass and the next day when he found out what had happened it made him sick. Luke says that he was getting better because of Melissa and he didn’t know anything about the attack. Jarod asks why he didn’t come forward. Luke says who would believe a low life over a respected doctor. Luke says, “No one will ever lay a finger on him.” Jarod replies, “Don’t bet on it.”
Jarod goes to Dr. Arnett’s office, and asks for help understanding the motivation behind hind the sexual predator. Arnett says that it is all about control. Arnett says that for them to get the control, he “the predator” must put his victims down. Jarod asks about if the man refuses to seek treatment. Arnett says that there is little hope for improvement. Jarod thinks that he should find a more radical form of therapy. He thanks Arnett of his “in sight”.
Jarod is filling a syringe with a sedative. He has a rubber ducky, and handcuffs. He is also setting up and camera. Then we see him asking Monique if she wants to play dress up.
Arnett is sitting in the office and he looks up to see Melissa walk by his door. He gets up and follows her down the hall. He follows her into a room where she reveals that she is Monique! Jarod comes up behind Arnett and injects him with the contents of the syringe. Jarod then tells him that it is just a B12 shot…. Jarod then says, “Oops, it’s a sedative. Don’t you just hate it when medications get switched.” Monique seems a bit startled.
Jarod is in a bathroom, with Arnett in the tub. The tub has a bit of water in it. Jarod whistles “Row Row Your Boat”. Jarod says that he is helping him relax… nothing is more relaxing than a bath… “that’s right hydrophobia. You really should see a therapist about that.” Arnett asks what he ever did to him. Jarod says that he didn’t do a thing to him, but he did so something to Melissa Blass. Arnett say that Luke Carlo did it. Jarod turns the water on. Jarod says that it is all about control…. like in college… when he took control over those four girls. Jarod says, “I may not have all the details, but I do have the brush strokes. Speaking of strokes, do you know yours?
The breath stroke, back stroke… cause you’re going to need them the way this water level is rising.” Jarod says that know Arnett knows how Melissa felt… she was drowning in her worst fear. Arnett asks, “Why are you doing this?” Jarod yells, “Because you did it to her!” Arnett confesses to raping Melissa in college and then recently because she didn’t stay down the first time. Jarod says that he attacked her again because she didn’t let what he did to her get her down. Arnett says, “She had to learn her lesson.” Jarod says, “Now it’s time you learn yours.” Jarod pushes him under the water and then checks the camera. Then he pulls Arnett out of the water. Jarod takes the tape with him. He leaves Arnett sitting in the tub.
At the Centre, Lyle comes up to Miss Parker and asks about the search for Jarod. Miss Parker tells him that there was no pursuit and he knows that. He pretends not to know what she is talking about. She says that he set up the whole thing. He plays dumb… she shoves a pistachio in his mouth and tells him, “Next time do your homework. Jarod’s allergic to pistachios.” Lyle smiles. Miss Parker is satisfied.
Broots comments to Sydney that Miss Parker is amazing and Sydney tells him to tell her. He goes to “show her” and she stops him. She tells him that she is flattered, but that it won’t happen. She slaps his arm and says, “Good Luck with the chinny chin chin.”
Broots is shocked. Miss Parker leaves in the elevator. Broots walks back towards Sydney.
Jarod is at Melissa’s house. He opens the front door and calls for her to come out on the porch. She tells him that coming out onto the porch is a start. He says, “Today the porch. Tomorrow the world.” He tells her that there are many people that need her help.
She thinks helping them with be good for her. She thanks him for helping her and they hug. He tells her “Good Luck.” Then he walks down the stairs, and down the street. The credits roll……
