(TV Guide Insider) Rex Van De Kamp didn’t stand a chance. Bree’s S&M-loving hubby (played by Steven Culp) went the way of Mary Alice and Mrs. Huber in the season finale of Desperate Housewives � but series creator Marc Cherry says his demise was a long time coming. “Bree is based on my mom. And my dad died, so I told poor Steven, ‘Had my dad lived, you’d still have a job.'” Rex won’t be the last Wisteria Lane resident to bite the dust, Cherry reveals. “Somebody will meet a surprising end at least once a year,” he says. Here, an unbelievably upbeat Culp talks about his departure, his reaction and his plans.

Desperate Housewives Top Critics’ Nominations!

Desperate Housewives picked up a leading five nominations for the 21st annual Television Critics Association Awards according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Housewives” was nominated for best new program and best comedy program, along with individual achievement in comedy mentions for stars Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross. The TCA Awards will be presented July 23 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif., in conjunction with the summer TCA press tour presented by the major broadcast and cable networks.

DH Season Ender Performs Well Overseas

The final two episodes of Desperate Housewives proved to be equally as successfully in Ireland and the UK wen they aired this week. In Ireland on RTE 2 they pulled in 420,000 viewers which attracted over half the viewing audience on that station during 9pm-11pm. On Tuesday in the UK on Channel 4 the final two episodes pulled in an impressive 4 million viewers.

The desperate divas of Wisteria Lane have brought their first season to a smashing close. So what’s in store for Year Two of ABC’s hit melodrama from the ‘burbs? Police Bust Housewives Co-Star

Most of 17-year-old Cody Kasch’s problems this year have occurred on ABC’s Desperate Housewives, where he’s had to deal with his mother’s suicide, his father’s increased paranoia and his girlfriend breaking up with him. Unfortunately, the young actor’s latest issues are happening in real life and they involve the police. According to the AP, Kasch was arrested and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession late Tuesday (May 17) night. Kasch was reportedly busted by a plainclothes officer after he was allegedly seen smoking marijuana in public. He was ticketed for fifth-degree drug possession and released.

WE will also feature Access Hollywood’s behind-the-scenes special, Secrets From Wisteria Lane, on Sunday May 15 at 10 p.m. ET, and a day-long movie festival, Before They Were Desperate, with movies starring Teri Hatcher (Dead in the Water), Marcia Cross (Always Say Goodbye), Felicity Huffman (A Slight Case of Murder), and Nicolette Sheridan (Somebody’s Daughter) on Sunday, May 22 beginning at 10 a.m. ET.

British Soap Star Ainsworth Cast On ‘Desperate Housewives’

British soap star Kacey Ainsworth has been hired for a three-episode guest stint on Desperate Housewives next season. The news was revealed during last night’s British Soap Awards by Shane Richie, Ainsworth’s current co-star on the daily BBC series EastEnders. He said that Ainsworth will be playing an English nanny, meaning she will probably be joining the Scavo household to take care of Lynette’s hyperactive kids.

Desperate Housewives Loans Gown to Teen

The senior at St. Hubert Roman Catholic High School wrote to the producers of Desperate Housewives last fall, after seeing her dream gown on the show. The lacy, rose-colored dress was worn by actress Eva Longoria as she mowed a lawn in the pilot episode.Saunders wrote that she loved the show and that she wanted photos of the dress so she could shop around for a similar dress at a reasonable price.

‘Housewives’ Huffman Wins Tribeca Award!

Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo) won the best actress award at the Tribeca Film Festival Saturday for Transamerica, in which she plays a preoperative transsexual woman on a cross-country road trip. Felicity Huffman’s husband William H. Macy accepted the award on his wife’s behalf in New York City, the award for Best Actress in a Narrative Feature Film at the awards ceremony for the 4th annual Tribeca Film Festival this past Saturday, April 30, 2005.
